Qi’UP XC is used in juice for superior clarification.
This innovative floccing agent from the IOC can be used during traditional juice settling or flotation. Qi’UP XC is a specialized preparation of chitosan that has a high surface charge allowing it to bind to solid particles in the juice. When used during flotation these larger particles are carried to the top of the flotation vessel on micro-bubbles of nitrogen gas or air, resulting in a clean juice.
For successful flotation the juice must not have started fermentation, must be pectin-free (which can be achieved using 3-4 mL/hL Scottzyme® Pec5L), and temperature must be >13°C(55 °F). To aid in lees/cap compaction during settling and flotation, Qi’UP XC should be used in conjunction with bentonite. We recommend 10-30 g/hL of NaCalit® PORE-TEC.TTB Status

This animal-free, non-allergenic fining agent is a viable alternative to gelatin. Qi’UP XC contains chitosan. As of 7.15.21, Chitosan from Aspergillus niger
is now approved for use in juice and wine for fining and clarification.
30-100 ppm; 3-10 g/hL; 0.25-0.83 lb/1000 gal
Add Qi’UP XC in 10 times its weight of clean, chlorine-free water, mixing constantly until suspension is homogeneous. Stir to maintain suspension during addition.
Dated expiration. Store away from light and in a dry, odor-free environment below 25°C(77°F). Once opened, use immediately.
